La Lecciola
Farmhouse
Agiturismo La Lecciola is located on Elba Island in Tuscany, Italia, in the surroundings of Rio nell’Elba, Elba’s oldest village, and close to Rio Marina’s harbor, where the ferries land.
The farmhouse produce white wine Vermentino DOC dell’Elba, vegetables, eggs, and breeds courtyard animals.
Nei pressi dell’azienda è possibile praticare diversi tipi di sport (snorkeling, diving, trekking, mountain-bike…) e attività culturali e ricreative (visita alla fortezza del Volterraio, Casa del Parco, Orto botanico, museo archeologico e dei minerali, visite alle miniere di ferro…).
Hospitality
The farmhouse is family-run and there are different type of accommodations: two houses, a caravan and a small camping providing all the necessary facilities.
Lemon House
The house is a self-contained house with sea-view terrace and a barbecue corner.
Almond House
The apartament, with sea-view patio, is on ground-floor of the farmhouse.
Roulotte
The roulotte contains a queen bed. The sea-view veranda is equipped for cooking.
Pitches for Tends
Each site is equipped with electrical hookups. A gazebo with table and chairs is for commun use.
The Farm
Our main production consists of white wine Vermentino DOC dell’Elba, vegetables and eggs.
Our freshly picked seasonal products and eggs are available every morning for direct sale to guests.
Wine
Wine production used to be the main agricultural activity on the Island from the times of the roman empire till the end of the 19th century. We resort to traditional techniques to give this production its old qualities.
Vegetables
The vegatable garden lies on terracing facing south and in the old reservoir of the Mill (bottaccio), in accordance with ancient local traditions: we grow tomatoes and beans with traditional "capannello" technique, we use native seeds registered at the Regional Germplasm Bank and we participate regularly in projects for the recovery and the protection of the local fruit and vegetable germplasm. We also favor conservative agricultural techniques: minimum tillage, cover crops, green manure and crop rotations.
Eggs
We raise a small group of free-range hens with ample space for scratching, their manure is exploited on the farm to fertilize the fields.
Our farm is located in the “Old Mills Valley” (Valle dei Mulini), 500 meters from the source of the Rio nell’Elba canals that provide an optimum irrigation.
The farm is committed to the prevention of hydrogeological instability through constant maintenance and the restoration of traditional hydraulic-agricultural arrangements; the vineyard is located on terracing supported by stone walls and it is grassed all year long in order to reduce erosion; the vegetable garden is partly built on land arranged on edges.
Activities and Nature
A perfect place to enjoy nature, rest, read, sunbathing… A nice setting to taste local products… and after this, you will have many opportunities to practice sports and participate in cultural activities.
